What people mean by "glass skin"

Published
"Glass skin" is a description of an appearance. It came out of Korean beauty writing and describes skin that looks smooth and reflects light evenly — like a pane of glass rather than a matte surface.
It describes a look, not a state of health
The phrase is aesthetic vocabulary. It is not a clinical term, it does not describe skin being healthier than other skin, and it is not something a product can be said to produce.
Where the look comes from
Photographs described this way usually have three things in common: an even surface, a lot of light, and often makeup. Lighting and photography account for a great deal of what the phrase is used to sell.
Related vocabulary
- Dewy — a finish that looks damp rather than matte.
- Matte — a finish with no shine.
- Satin — between the two.
These are all descriptions of finish. Which one you prefer is a preference, not a goal to achieve.
